The craziness of the stock market at the end of the 80s and the first steps of the capital market in Portugal, associated to the “pig in a poke” of Cavaco Silva, triggered my passion for the market economy and took me to try out, in 1988, the economic journalism. The Semanário Económico was my first job, whilst still a student of economics at Católica. The job was like a second school to me, because there it was already “for real”, with readers and consequences. As there were few journalists that understood the stock market, I was invited, still very young, to found the Diário Económico, the Público, provide assistance to Independente, found and edit the Valor and finish my experiences in journalism in “O Semanário”, when I was 28 years old. I felt then that I did not want anymore bosses. And I have never had anymore… I would return to journalism three years later, to the foundation of the Jornal de Negócios and business channel, already as promoter and shareholder, in one of my first adventures as an entrepreneur. They were three exceptional years, culminating in a sale to Grupo Cofina. Other entrepreneurial adventures followed in the middle of the technological bubble at the start of the millennium (Virtual-games.com and netjobs.com) – one went bankrupt and the other was sold to Público. After journalism my base was the communication consultancy Bairro Alto, where I began in September of 1995 and which, some years later, became Lift Consulting. Today “Lift World” is a leading group in its sector, composed by 8 specialized agencies, which provide integrated consulting services in communication and marketing to its Clients. It has been a good time: no two days are alike and Mondays are as welcome as Fridays.
