HERITAGE

'CACO'

According to the Old Testament, Bolo do caco was a popular bread baked by the Hebrews. As the story goes, this bread ceased to exist for centuries. In the late 19th century, it was reborn in the Island of Porto Santo in Madeira. This iconic dish of Portugal is conquering the world of gourmet kitchens. It is beautifully and simply made by hand with love, sweet potato flour, sea salt and water.

'PONCHA'

Poncha is a drink that originated in India, was brought to Europe by the British, and was adapted by Madeirans. The Indian name given to the drink, namely pãnch, was initially comprised of five ingredients: Rice or nut coconut spirit, sugar, fresh herb tea, spices and water. It is believed that Poncha was tasted for the first time outside India on Madeira Island in the mid-eighteenth century by the English, during their travels between those parts.
